This Friday, February 12th Deadpool is finally making his way to theaters. The Merc with a Mouth is being played by none other than Ryan Renolds, who actually briefly portrayed the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Renolds has played a superhero before when he undertook the role of Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern film. Unfortunately, the movie was not well received and did disastrously at the box office.
Thankfully Renolds recovered and is now playing a role which some would say he is born to play. Deadpool has already received some positive early reviews and currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Exciting stuff right? Well if you found that exciting then hold onto your chimichanga’s because Deadpool has already had a green light for a sequel. Just like my girlfriend always says “That was fast.” Here’s what we know so far on the sequel.
Director Tim Miller is not currently attached to return to the Directors chair, although Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have already begun work on the script for the sequel. Fox is apparently very happy with these three individuals and is fairly determined to keep them together. It has also been heavily rumored that the next film will include the mutant Cable. This certainly seems to jive with statements Ryan Renolds has made about one of his top priorities being to get an X-Force movie off the ground. Fox already has The New Mutants in development which precedes the X-Force. The hope seems to be to have all these characters tie in down the road in a future film.
Deadpool releases this Valentines weekend and is expected to rake in $65 Million on opening weekend. To date this is the only film in the X-Men universe with an R-rating and it also has the lowest budget. Are you planning on seeing Deadpool this weekend?
