The Demon Souls remaster we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived with the PS5. Saying this game is breathtaking is an understatement, but fans of the game know that beauty isn’t what they came for. The difficult boss fights and intense combat is what attracts these fans. Today, we are going to share with you how to beat Phalanx in the game.
Phalanx is the first boss players will come across when playing Demon Souls. This amorphous blob might look like a slug from hell, but it packs a hell of a punch if you’re not careful. We’ve compiled some tips to quickly dispatch this boss so that you can move to the crazier bosses Demon Souls has to offer.
How to Beat Phalanx in Demon Souls:
To beat the Demon Souls boss, Phalanx, players should absolutely have some sort of fire attack. Whether it be firebombs, or the Flame Toss spell, as long as players have some sort of fire in their repertoire, Phalanx won’t have a chance. That being said, the first thing players need to do is get rid of the Hoplites that cover Phalanx.
These Hoplites are the shields that players will see when approaching Phalanx. They’ll hop off Phalanx’s back and follow you around to attack, so be careful. They might not have as big of a health bar, but if you become surrounded, that will be the end for you. Luckily, they’re as weak to fire as Phalanx is.

Firebombs are a must, especially for players going for a melee heavy run in Demon Souls. Those players are going to need Pine Resin (Turpentine) to coat their weapon and some fire damage. A combination of the Pine Resin and the Firebombs will cut through the health of the Hoplites and quickly work Phalanx’s health down as well. For magic users, Flame Toss is invaluable. Though the Hoplites always have shields raised, their fire weakness is their doom.
Once the Hoplites are taken care of, Phalanx is super easy to dispatch. Just keep hammering Phalanx with fire and other attacks, and he’ll be put down in no time. From it, players will receive 1270 Souls and 1 Demon Soul.
Demon Souls on the PS5 will certainly be the welcome to the next generation that people have been waiting for. And now, with this guide, players should be one boss battle closer to defeating all the bosses in Demon Souls.
