The yearly event DemoNight kicks off 2022, starting February 3rd to the 5th. The event hosted by Gameplay Space is one of the year’s biggest developer events. O studios from Quebec a chance to show the projects their currently working on in front of a large audience.
A history of great games a DemoNights
Fifteen selected studios have 5 minutes to show live gameplay of their unreleased games each year. Some of which come from well-known AAA studios. In the past, a showing of an early pre-release build of Mass Effect 3, We Happy Few, and a very early build of Tribes of Midgard were shown on the stage. The event displays a mixed bag of games in various stages of development.
Additionally, 2022 is a big year for DemoNights, an anniversary year for the organization. According to their website, which anniversary isn’t totally known, they state this,
“This one is special because it might have been 15 years since the first edition took place, or it might be the 10th anniversary of the event. No one is really sure. However, we all agree that we have come a long way since then, and we want to celebrate and plan to go big!”
The first DemoNights took place in 2006, Initially run by the Montreal chapter of the International Game Developers Association. GamePlay Space took it under its wing in 2017. Since then, hundreds of our favorite games found their early audiences at the developer event showing everyone the dev talent in Quebec.
Giving developers a spotlight
Coinciding with DemoNights, Steam offers a sale to celebrate these developers and help give players more access to them. The games on the DemoNight stage last year can be found on the Games from Quebec sale page, with this year’s games being displayed on the main Steam page.
This year DemoNight will be using a hybrid format. Studios will be presenting their game live on stage, and fans can watch the event over the three nights on their partner Loto Quebec’s Twitch channel. Alternatively, fans can also watch the event from the Games from Quebec Steam sale page.
Lastly, those interested in having their game participate in DemoNights in the future. Submissions open in the fall and close at the beginning of December. For any more information regarding eligibility or other information, go to the DemoNights website.
