Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour date is quickly approaching, but the songstress isn’t the only one left busy with the upcoming event. The Etsy designer, responsible for designing the iconic mirror ball hat that featured in Beyonce’s promotion video ahead of the album’s release, had to take drastic measures to satisfy her customers after the celebrity effect rocked her business.
Speaking to TMZ, the shop owner, Abby Misbun, who goes by “Trending by Abby” on Etsy, revealed that she has been overwhelmed with orders since the songstress dropped the date of her upcoming tour. The overwhelming orders pouring in since then to make the same cowgirl-style disco hat forced the designer to not only shut down her store but also employ the help of her sister to complete all the pre-ordered pieces of the hand-make hat.
Explaining how she hit her recent good fortune, the hat designer revealed one of the singer’s stylists hit her up in June, requesting a mirrored cowboy hat. The stylist made sure to clarify the order belonged to Beyoncé, who needed it ready within five days. A trilled Abby went to work immediately and produced the fully hand-crafted masterpiece. According to her, she ended up charging the crooner $215 for the complete work.
Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Date Announcement Blew Up The Sales
Sure enough, Abby got to see her handwork adorn the singer’s head about two months later, in her video teaser for her Renaissance album. The hip-hop queen rocked the iconic hat again in January, while announcing the dates of her upcoming Renaissance tours, once again, spotlighting the masterpiece.
Since the announcement, Abby’s business has experienced a complete turnaround, undoubtedly owing to the Beyoncé-effect. The hat maker explained how many Beyoncé fans have bombarded her with orders, increasing her weekly orders from 5-6 to about 60 orders. However, the process is not as easy as it may seem at a glance for a $215 hat.
According to Abby, she could only complete two of the handmade 10,000 to 15,000 mirror-tile hats per day, with all the manually-infused details involved. To meet up with these overwhelming orders, she decided to shut down her Etsy Shop for now. She has since focused on fulfilling all the orders she already received for the mirror ball hat ahead of Beyoncé‘s Renaissance tour, commencing on May 10, 2023. Thankfully, she has help from her sister to meet the target.
While the process is undoubtedly a daunting one for the hat designer, and indeed a tiring part of her business, she couldn’t be happier for the opportunity to be a part of this in some way.
