Universal Pictures and Illumination have officially announced the Despicable Me 4 release date. The latest installment in the Despicable Me movies is slated to be released on July 3, 2024, with Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Miranda Cosgrove, and Steve Coogan all set to reprise their roles from the previous film.

Chris Renaud, who previously directed the first two Despicable Me movies, will also return to direct Despicable Me 4. Patrick Delage is set to co-direct, with Illumination founder Chris Meledandri set to produce. There are currently no details regarding the film’s plot at this time. Despicable Me 4 will also be Illumination’s 15th feature film collaboration with Universal.
The Despicable Me movies originally launched in 2010 with the release of the first Despicable Me film, which followed Gru (Steve Carell – a reformed super-villain who ultimately becomes a father, husband, and secret agent – and his yellow-hued pack of Minions as they care for his adoptive daughters and fight against other villains causing mayhem throughout the world.
In addition to the Despicable Me 4 release date, Illumination and Universal also announced the release of another original animated film before Despicable Me 4, which will be titled Migration. It will release on June 30, 2023, and follow a family of ducks who convince their over-protective father to go on vacation to places around the world, including New England, New York City, and ultimately down to the Bahamas. Oscar nominee Benjamin Renner (Ernest et Célestine) is set to direct the film from an original screenplay by Mike White (School of Rock, The White Lotus), with Illumination founder Chris Meledandri also producing.
The second “Despicable Me” spinoff, “Minions: The Rise of Gru is set to hit theaters on July 1 after being delayed two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie will follow Gru’s childhood exploits as he attempts to join a supervillain team called the Vicious 6. The voice cast will consist of Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin, in addition to Carrel and Coffin returning.
