Hot on the heels of the Festival of the Lost seasonal event, Bungie has released a new forward-looking trailer for Destiny 2. This new video focuses on some of the new loot coming to the game in the Beyond Light expansion that launches on November 10.
The trailer shows off ten new exotic pieces of gear, four weapons, and six armor pieces that will, with one exception, become available on the launch of Beyond Light. The one exception is a pre-order bonus that will unlock after Season One of the expansion has concluded. That pre-order bonus is the No Time To Explain exotic pulse rifle. Long time players will remember the gun as an exotic pulse rifle from the first Destiny. The gun is an upgraded version of The Stranger’s Rifle a reward for completing Destiny’s campaign. This version allows players to summon a protective portal that will vacuum up enemy bullets and fire them back. The gun will also return rounds to the magazine whenever you score precision hits on an enemy.
The trailer then shows three new weapons coming to Destiny 2. The first being the Cloudstrike sniper rifle, with the special effects being similar to the Thunderlord machine gun. Precision hits with the Cloudstrike cause lightning bolts to hit the target for bonus damage and rapid hits cause a lightning storm. Following that up is The Lament chainsaw sword. Using the sword to block will rev up the chainsaw blade. When the blade is revved up to maximum, attacks with The Lament will heal you. The final weapon of the trailer is the Salvation’s Grip grenade launcher. Of all the weapons shown the Grip is the most on-brand for the icy Beyond Light expansion. The weapon fires a blast that freezes nearby targets and can be charged up for a larger blast radius.
After showing off some stunning weapons, Bungie showcased two exotic armor pieces per character class, a helmet, and a set of gauntlets for each class in Destiny 2. Titans will get the Icefall Mantle gauntlets and the Precious Scars helmet. The gloves take the Titan’s stationary Barricade shield and turn it into an overshield that moves with the wearer. The helmet gives a shield to the Titan and any surrounding guardians whenever the Titan revives another player.
Hunters can find the Mask of Bakris helmet and the Arthrys’s Embrace gauntlets. The helmet actually returns an old Destiny ability to hunters by changing their dodge ability into a longer range blink movement ability. In the first game, hunters could replace their double jump with a blink, an ability that was moved over to Warlocks in Destiny 2. The new Hunter grips, on the other hand, take the version of the hunter’s knife throwing attacks that bounces and gives it a second ricochet.
For Warlocks, there is the Dawn Chorus helmet and the Necrotic Grip. The Dawn Chorus powers up a Warlock’s Daybreak super ability, allowing its projectiles to inflict burning damage over time and buffing their damage. As the name implies the Necrotic Grip sleeves allow Warlocks to inflict damage over time with their melee attacks.
The end of the trailer showcases various new legendary items coming to Destiny 2 with Beyond Light. There wasn’t much as far as details go, but the gear looks to be very enjoyable to use.
With a chainsaw sword on the way, I guess I shouldn’t get too attached to this Falling Guillotine thing.
