While there’s not currently a whole lot else to look forward to, The Witch Queen has the eyes of all Destiny 2 guardians, with its release set for February 22. The witch queen Savathûn will soon arrive, and promises to have just a few more tricks up her sleeve than her twisted brother Oryx. Featuring an all-new playspace, the Throne World, this location has been shrouded in mystery, leaving guardians with plenty to wonder about when it comes to the Hive Queen’s realm. That is, until today. Over on the Destiny 2 YouTube channel, the team unveiled our first trailer for the twisted Throne World of The Witch Queen expansion, which you can check out below.
Savathûn’s Throne World is one lacking in the linearity you’d expect from most of the Destiny 2 playspaces released so far. Just from the first 10 seconds of the trailer, so many different locations are present, from her foreboding fortress to the revolting swamps. There’s even more flavors of horror though, as the trailer quickly delves into the dark and tense corridors the Hive have become known for. We can’t forget either that her minions are wielding the Light now too, so expect plenty of resistance when it comes to clearing this Throne World of Savathûn’s minions. The trailer ends off with the towering Savathûn exerting her power over a fellow guardian, proving she’s a force to be reckoned with in the next expansion. We also get a quick glimpse of the Scorn, meaning they may have brokered a deal with the queen in one form or another.
Either way, Bungie knows how to attract attention to their upcoming content. With Destiny 2: The Witch Queen’s release fast approaching, and the trailer painting Savathûn as a formidable foe, you can expect a fitting penultimate chapter in the Light vs Dark saga. As for how it plays out, we’ll have to wait and see.
