The Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion is the next one in line. Each year, Bungie releases a brand new expansion that not only takes the storyline forward but also introduces new weapons, armor, and other collectibles. The Lightfall expansion was set to release in 2022, but the developers had to delay it due to the pandemic.
There isn’t a fixed release date for Lightfall right now. According to the Bungie roadmap, the Lightfall expansion will live in 2023. Keeping those dates in mind, there should be two more seasons before the next expansion. That said, there are a lot of interesting things that are set to arrive with Destiny 2 Lightfall.
Everything new in the Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion
Just like every other expansion, the upcoming one will also usher in a lot of new content. Since it’s a new expansion, a new storyline will be associated with it. The community believes the Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion will revolve around the Witness attacking the Traveler. We got a glimpse of The Witness and The Black Fleet towards the end of the Witch Queen campaign. From the looks of it, The Witness happens to be the final villain of the Destiny 2 storyline.
Apart from new weapons and a brand new storyline, the expansion will usher in many new weapons and Exotic items for everyone to collect and use in the game. Based on the information released previously, Guardians will unlock a new Darkness subclass. This subclass is known as Strand and will be the second Darkness subclass after Stasis. Bungie will be conducting a showcase on August 23. At this showcase, the developers will reveal more information about Destiny 2 Lightfall. There are also rumors of a new friendly alien race coming to the game.

We’re still unsure why these aliens are friendly towards the Guardians and the Vanguard. But these aliens will help us learn and control the upcoming Darkness subclass. Overall, Bungie is already hyping up Destiny 2 Lightfall. The expansion is expected to go live sometime around February 2023. It is unlikely that the developers will delay the expansion any further, given that it’s been delayed once already. Just like the previous expansions in the game, Lightfall will consist of four seasons before moving into The Final Shape in 2024. Till then, sit back and channel your inner Palpatine with the Arc 3.0 rework in Destiny 2 Season 18.
