A retro gaming enthusiast has commenced his crowdfunding project for the upcoming open-world RPG, 8-bit Apocalypse. The developer and founder of AwesomeBlade Software, Rasmus Sørensen, has already accumulated several backers after launching the Kickstarter just today.
A Link to the Distant Future
In the 8-bit Apocalypse, we find our pixelated hero time-traveling to the future from 1989. Upon arrival, however, he discovers that the Earth he once knew has been degraded by pollution. To make matters worse, not a single fellow human is in sight. Instead, strange fiends and rogue robots roam the land, ensuring that Earth stays human-free.
In order for our hero to correct this wrongful turning in time, he must traverse this open-world adventure. By adding in RPG elements and platforming mechanics, 8-bit Apocalypse allows the player to level up and earn experience points to go toward new skills. These can go from increasing your shooting ability to acquiring the power to fly. Additionally, you can purchase new items with the acquired coins you muster up from your journeys.
8-bit Apocalypse Kickstarter Trailer
8-bit Apocalypse appears to be a hybrid of other well-known platformers and RPGs. Most notably Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, this fresh take on the open-world concept is something that Rasmus Sørensen is greatly looking forward to. He expressed his intentions for the project on the game’s Kickstarter page, saying:
I need to buy the time and resources to make it a fantastic game. I also need to hire the right people to help me achieve this. You guys have the power to make this happen.”
Furthermore, Rasmus Sørensen will release the game on PC, but he does intend to expand if the crowdfunding goal surpasses its initial amount. If all goes well, it will be ported onto the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
Right now, the Kickstarter campaign has 29 days remaining until its deadline, which is June 17. At the time of this article’s writing, nine individuals have backed the game with $155 pledged out of the targeted $66,924 goal.
