Showtime is delivering new spin-offs of Dexter and Billions. It was reported in September that Showtime would possibly be fully integrated into Paramount+, a report that was confirmed on January 30th. According to Variety, Showtime is rebranding to Paramount+ with Showtime and reconfiguring its programming. Part of that reconfiguration is these spin-offs of Dexter and Billions, both have which have been highly successful shows on the Showtime network. Dexter ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013 and received a limited sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, in 2021. Billions has been running on the network since 2016, and its seventh season is on the way.
What to Expect from ‘Dexter’ Spin-Offs
One Dexter spin-off has officially been greenlit, with at least two others being considered. The greenlit series has the working title Dexter: Origins. It will see the budding serial killer graduate from college to join Miami Metro, where he meets younger versions of the characters we will all remember from the series. Such characters include his adoptive father, Harry (still alive), and a teenage version of his sister Deb.
Another series being considered is a follow-up to Dexter: New Blood which would focus on Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott), who, after the chaotic reintroduction to his father, flees to New York, where he must work out his own violent tendencies and figure out if he has inherited his father’s compulsion to kill. Deadline reports that Showtime is also eyeing a prequel series about the Trinity Killer, the main antagonist of season four, played by John Lithgow.
What Do the ‘Billions’ Spin-Offs Have in Store?
While some complain that Billions has overstayed its welcome, the show is doing so well that Showtime has up to four spin-off series planned. Billions: Miami (working title) would be set in the world of private aviation with a clientele that feels the rules of society, government, and gravity don’t apply to them as they navigate through the wealth, nightlife, contraband, and cryptocurrency that pulse through the city.
Also in Billions spin-offs in development are Billions: London, which focuses on the world of U.K. fiance, Millions which centers on 30-something financial mogul wannabes in Manhattan, and Trillions which features fictional wealthy titans across the country coming into contact and conflict with one another. All titles are working titles.
