Disney+ has released the trailer for its upcoming docuseries, Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All. The docuseries will explore the rise to fame and wildly successful career of English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who acknowledges that his rise to fame was “so unlikely.” Sheeran recalls the type of child he was: “Ginger hair. Really short. He stutters. That guy doesn’t become a pop star.” Yet due to his hard work and knowing the right people, the 32-year-old has had a huge career, with his fifth studio album Subtract coming out in May 2023. The description for the four-part docuseries reads:
“For the first time ever, global superstar, Ed Sheeran opens the doors to a definitive and searingly honest view into his private life as he explores the universal themes that inspire his music. This series follows Ed after he learns of life changing news and reveals his hardships and triumphs during the most challenging period of his life.”

Ed Sheeran Recounts Loss And Hardship in Disney+ Docuseries
Sheeran’s successful music career has been filled with chart-topping hits, sold-out tours, and numerous awards. He says his life improved in every way when his wife Cherry came into his life and gave him two daughters. However, he’s been through multiple hardships recently. Sheeran recently shared on Instagram that a series of events at the start of 2022 changed his life, his mental health, and the way he viewed music and art. These events included his wife being diagnosed with a tumor during her pregnancy that couldn’t be treated until after she gave birth, and the death of Sheeran’s best friend, music entrepreneur and DJ Jamal Edwards. He also lost another close friend, Australian cricketer Shane Warne. Sheeran recently honored Warne in a performance. According to BuzzFeed News, Sheeran faced another hardship last year when he was hit with a copyright lawsuit from musicians Sami Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue who claimed that Sheeran’s song “Shape Of You” took “particular lines and phrases” from their song “Oh Why.” Sheeran ultimately won that suit but was grieved to have had to defend his integrity and career in court.
Sheeran’s wife has since recovered from the tumor.
Ed Sheeran Opens Up For The First Time
Sheeran is known for being very private, but Deadline reports he’s letting his guard down for this docuseries. “I’ve always been very guarded in my personal and private life; the only documentary I’ve ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting,” Sheeran said. “Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary, and it felt like the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it.”
All four episodes of the docuseries Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All will release on Disney+ on May 3.
