The Disney+ comedy-drama series Diary of a Future President” has been canceled after two seasons. In a tweet shared earlier today, Ilana Peña announced that a Season 3 would not be happening for the series. Diary of a Future President was the third original series that debuted for the streaming service. The series follows future President Elena Cañero-Reed, as she starts the seventh grade. It has narration from her diary as she faces challenges on her way to becoming President. Not only was the series an original idea, but it also came from CBS Studios. Ilana Peña created the series and wrote for it. Gina Rodriguez played the adult version of Elena and the President. She executive produced the series along with Ilana Peña, Robin Shorr, Emily Gipson, Bradley Silberling, and Lewis Abel.
Ilana Peña Has Other Projects Waiting
The Disney+ series is not Peña’s only work. She wrote for the CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. CBS TV Studios produced that series. Peña co-wrote the Refinery29 and Planned Parenthood produced work Her Shorts with Rachel Bloom. Ilana Peña signed an overall deal with CBS TV Studios. The writer and producer will have more chances to inspire more little girls and boys of color with her future projects. Peña is also a playwright, whose plays have graced the stage at Goodman Theatre Latino Theater Festival in Chicago and the INTAR Theatre in New York. Regarding her overall deal with CBS Studios Kate Adler, EVP of Comedy Development, CBS TV Studios commented, saying:
She is exactly the kind of writer executives dream of: smart, funny, hard-working and inspired. We knew she had a lot to say and couldn’t wait to develop with her. Our suspicions were confirmed when we read her first draft of Diary of a Future President. Now we just need to figure out how to clone her.”
The cancellation of the Disney+ comedy-drama series Diary of a Future President is nowhere near the end of Peña’s work.
