Are you a BlazBlue fan looking for something new? If you are, consider this a late Christmas gift! During the Dungeon & Fighter Universe Festival in South Korea, Nexon announced their new 2D fighting game, DNF Duel (Dungeon & Fighter Duel). This upcoming title is a spin-off of the popular beat ‘em up RPG by Neople, Dungeon Fighter Online (DFO). According to Nexon, more details about the game will be released at a later date. At the time of writing this article, no information has been revealed regarding which platforms will be supported.
DNF Duel – Developers
DNF Duel is being co-developed by Neople (a subsidiary of Nexon) and the Japanese development studio, Arc System Works. The latter is known for their expertise in action games and their use of anime-style visuals. Arc System Works previously developed popular titles such as Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. They have gained international acclaim for their unique use of beautiful cell-shaded 2D and 3D graphics. The short teaser trailer for DNF Duel, which revealed gameplay and cinematic footage, conveys an art style that is very similar to Arc System Works’ BlazBlue.
Nexon writes:
The collective expertise of these two studios promises an outstanding fighting game experience for players and an exciting new direction for the Dungeon & Fighter franchise.”
DFO – Expansion
According to Game Rant, it would seem that Neople plans on expanding the universe of Dungeon Fighter Online in the future. Indeed, during the Dungeon & Fighter Universe Festival, multiple Neople projects were announced. This included Project BBQ, DFO’s Ozma 12-man raid, DNF Mobile, and even a new anime.
