Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is quickly becoming one of the most exciting upcoming entries of the MCU. It was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con this past Summer. It seems to have received more updates than most of the other projects announced then. And each one has been more tantalizing than the last. The most recent update comes from the Marvel Chief Creative Officer himself, Kevin Feige.
Feige recently spoke at the New York Film Academy and talked briefly about the Doctor Strange sequel. The film will mark the debut of new Marvel characters, which isn’t necessarily surprising. But he did note that one of them is a character Marvel has always wanted to use.
Sometimes you’re choosing a title hero, choosing which main character or main team you want to bring to the screen and often times, it’s as you’re making and developing the movie asking, ‘Who will come into it?’ and ‘Who will fit into it? The next Doctor Strange film, for instance, features some new MCU characters which will be making their debut in that movie.
You won’t expect or won’t guess who it is but we found a cool way to make it work because we want to make a particular type of movie there. And there was a character who we always wanted to do something with who will fit really well there.”
He also took the time to clarify whether or not Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will be a horror movie. While returning director Scott Derrickson called it such at SDCC, Feige stated it’s not really horror, but does feature scary moments.
The sequel will see Benedict Cumberbatch return to the lead role. But joining him will be fellow Earth defender Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlett Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Her upcoming Disney+ series, WandaVision, will tie into this movie. So will the Loki series.
While Feige thinks we won’t be able to guess this mysterious character, there’s no reason we can’t try. Who do you think he’s referring to? Which character would you want to see appear in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness? My money’s on Mephisto.
