Christmas is around the corner, and American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, an Emmy award-winner, stated that she won’t be dragging the ‘queen title’ with her colleague, Mariah Carey. Both singers have openly expressed their love for the holiday season and it reflects in their music, and lifestyle generally.
A debate sprang up about which of the duo should be crowned the queen of the season. Fortunately, the Jolene singer cleared the air, appearing on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine.
According to the 74-year-old RIAA winner, her colleague, 54, deserves the title better than her. Dolly Parton pointed out that Mariah Carey can be the queen of Christmas as she’s not interested in competing for the title. In her words:
“You think of Christmas, you think of Mariah. I’m happy to be second in line to her.”
One may feel that it’s because Parton doesn’t have a specific song associated with her and Christmas. Carey, on the other hand, is always remembered during Christmas because of her No. 1 hit single “All I Want for Christmas is You.” The song tops charts around this time every year.
The Queens of Christmas, Dolly Parton, and Mariah Carey Have Special Plans For The Holidays
Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton’s crowned Queen of Christmas, announced she’ll be hosting a two-hour special on CBS and Paramount +. She will be treating the audience to her biggest songs on “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All!”
The holidays are already around the corner, and it looks promising. While Carey has her performance scheduled, Parton’s movie titled, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” is set to debut this December.
This will be her sixth Christmas movie. She has also released three Christmas LPs including one with Kenny Rogers called “Once Upon a Christmas.”
It’s exciting to have Mariah Carey the Queen of Christmas, and Dolly Parton entertain their fans during the holidays.
Mariah Carey’s Queen of Christmas Title Challenged
Before Mariah Carey’s title was confirmed by Dolly Parton, she filed for a trademark to be known as the official Queen of Christmas in March 2021. Her request was countered by singers, Elizabeth Chan and Darlene Love.
Chan and Love argued that they were the true titleholders, taking legal steps to prevent the trademark from progressing. Per Variety, Chan stated that Christmas was celebrated before anyone here, and it’ll be around after everyone’s gone.
So no one person should hold monopolize anything about the season like Carey. It’s not the right thing to do as Christmas is for everyone Chan stated.
Importantly, the season is here. Start making plans for the holidays already!
