Back in May 2017, Marvel and FXX announced a partnership that would bring a brand-new animated Deadpool TV series to the network. Donald and Stephen Glover (writers and creators of the hit FX series Atlanta) were set to be the show-runners of the project and the new show would include a 10 episode inaugural season. Everything was business as usual for everyone involved until a few days ago when FX made a stunning announcement that all parties have “agreed to part ways on Marvel’s animated series”. This puzzling decision quickly led to rumors that Donald Glover’s (lack of) availability was the real cause of the sudden cancellation. Glover replied to these rumors via Twitter saying “For the record: I wasn’t too busy to work on Deadpool”. The Atlanta star then went on to post a 15-page script titled “finale”.
So you may be asking yourself what exactly is in this revealed script? Well, the script mainly revolves around Deadpool’s struggle to accept his abrupt cancellation while he attempts to protect an endangered rhino in Africa. He is also constantly obsessing over the status of Bitcoin. The whole thing is a fantastic read and if you want to see it for yourself please click here.
While it isn’t confirmed whether or not Marvel will shop the project around to other networks and/or writers, it is still disappointing to hear that things didn’t pan out with the Glover brothers and FX. The script was hilarious to read and it seemed that Glover, like Ryan Reynolds before him, captured the character perfectly. Even going as far as making some questionable moral choices that only the Merc with a Mouth would make. What do you think regarding FX’s cancellation of the animated Deadpool series?
