Political cartoons are nothing new. They’re one of many ways people protest and outright mock hopeful candidates and elected officials alike. But an entire comic book dedicated to destroying Donald Trump? Now that’s a statement.
Donald of the Dead is a comic written by Dan Taylor and illustrated by Chris Fason. It features the Republican runner using sinister magic to transform his followers into ravenous zombies and unleashing them upon the poor, helpless country. The project was launched on Kickstarter with a $1,000 budget, which it surpassed in one single day.
Taylor commented on the inspiration for the comic being his and Taylor’s very real fear that Trump may actually get elected President. “I found myself waking up in the middle of the night terrified about a possible future should Donald Trump become President of the United States. I figured what better way to exercise [exorcise?] this particular demon than by collaborating with my long time independent comic publishing partner Chris Fason on a terrifyingly fun zombie story?”
Partner in crime Fason echoed Taylor’s sentiments perfectly. “I’m always fascinated by our political system and how some people make it into power… He may not be the President we need, but our zombified Lich King Trump is definitely the President we deserve. Dan Taylor and I couldn’t help ourselves but to show this gruesome madness for what it is.”
Fason and Taylor have been cooperating to create comics for over a decade, with works such as Hero Happy Hour. Taylor has edited writing for comic book lines like Metal Gear Solid, Transformers, and Star Trek. Fason is a graphic designer and illustrator, and has worked on children’s book Elkbar.
