There are two more cosmetic DLC packs coming to Doom Eternal this weekend, despite promises from the creative team that this would not happen.
The DOOMicorn Master Collection Cosmetic Pack, priced at $4.99, includes a magical slew of unicorn-related skins, variants, animations and more. Priced at $8.99, the DOOM Eternal: Series One Cosmetic Pack has skins, icons and nameplates from the game’s Season One event. All of the goodies above have been available to players, for free, in the past. But this is the first time they are available as a bundle.
Before Doom Eternal’s release, creative director Hugo Martin promised fans on Facebook that there would be no in-game store:
No store. Nothing u can unlock in eternal with XP has anything to do with player abilities or content that would impact your game in anyway. The only thing u can unlock with XP is COSMETICS. These cosmetics have no impact on how u play, they just look cool.
Martin continued on to say:
Eternal is a $60 game, not a free to play game or a mobile game – we are giving u a complete experience with no store just like you’d expect. Unlocking skins with XP is a part of the experience if you care about that stuff or u can completely ignore it and it will have no impact on your experience AT ALL and it’s all free.
In the past, Doom Eternal has had narrative DLC, Ancient Gods 1 & 2, release, and there was a cosmetics DLC pack, the Rip ‘N Tear pack, that held all the preorder goods.
Doom Eternal is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows and Google Stadia. It is also available through Game Pass for free.
