Hell on earth has never looked this amazing. Bethesda and Id software took the stage at Quakecon 2018 to reveal the first gameplay for the upcoming Doom Eternal. Doom Eternal is the follow-up to the stellar Doom 2016 which rebooted the series in spectacular fashion. Doom Eternal looks to build on the solid foundation that the previous game left, and if the trailers are any indication, Doom Eternal is shaping up to be a worthy successor.
At Quakecon, Id developers showed us three in depth trailers from different sections of the game. In these trailers we are reintroduced to the Doom Slayer, the series titular character. He has a bit of a redesign and a few new toys to come with it. In the trailers we see he has a new blade attached to his arm making for some brutal finishing moves.
The trailers also highlighted a new traversal system as well as a swath of new weapons. The Doom Slayer now comes equipped with a grappling hook to make combat even more hectic. Paired with a new boost mechanic, Doom Eternal is looking to strengthen the speedy shooter.
Many new guns that are making a return in Doom Eternal come with some noticeable upgrades. The trusty double barrel shotgun was shown in depth and comes with a blade underneath the cannon. Doom Eternal seems to boast a huge variety in it’s weapons, from assault rifles, massive rocket launchers, and various shotguns. During the final trailer a massive energy sword was teased, which promises to make the Doom Slayer feel even more powerful than before.
Finally, we got an update on the new enemies and level of destruction in the game. Many new faces and redesigns will be added in the game. The newly redesigned demons have been pulled from previous games and given a more modern look. We also got our first look at one of the massive bosses in the game. Most enemies will now begin to fall apart in spectacular fashion as you rack up damage on them.
We still have no release date for Doom Eternal but from what we saw from the trailers, it seems rather far in development. Look for more Doom Eternal news in the future, here on The Nerd Stash.
