As part of the Netflix Geeked presentation, Netflix has officially confirmed the release of Dragon Age: Absolution, a new animated series based on the popular Bioware video game franchise. It will premiere some December.
Dragon Age: Absolution Series Details and Release
Dragon Age: Absolution is a brand new Netflix anime series created in collaboration with BioWare and set in the same universe as the iconic fantasy game franchise. It features an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age, and more details are expected to be revealed as the series premiere looms closer. Netflix confirmed that the show takes place in the Tevinter Imperium and will include “elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons and other special surprises.” It will release sometime in December 2022.
Rumors of a series based on the Dragon Age series for Netflix started about a year ago. However, Dragon Age co-creator David Gaider has previously expressed some doubts about the series.
Mairghread Scott, known for writing multiple animated shows, including Guardians of the Galaxy to Star Wars Resistance, will serve as the showrunner for Dragon Age: Absolution, produced by Red Dog Culture House. Scott is also writing for Netflix’s upcoming Magic: The Gathering show.
First released in 2009 with Dragon Age: Origins, the Dragon Age franchise has made a name for itself over the years despite being relatively recent, winning several awards and spanning a total of three games. The most recent is 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition. The next Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, will be a single-player-focused experience that further builds upon the foundation laid by the previous titles. Dragon Age: Absolution also takes place in the same setting as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, a place known as the Tevinter Imperium.
