Dragon Ball FighterZ isn’t the only game adding characters to its roster. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 continues to fill its own with more characters from across the franchise’s storied history. The latest round of DLC includes not only Super Baby Vegeta, from the maligned GT era. But also fan-favorite Kefla – the female Saiyan fusion, introduced during the Tournament of Power arc in Dragon Ball Super.
The addition of another GT character is unexpected. It’s a series heavily criticized by fans for a long list of reasons. The timing also seems odd. The previous DLC pack came with a whopping 8 new playable characters, not one of them from GT. In fact, two come from movies – Android 13 and Tapion. Meanwhile, Dabura and Super Buu (Gohan Absorbed) came in from the final arc of Dragon Ball Z. The Dragon Ball Super variation of Android 17 was added, along with both Ultra Instinct Goku and Jiren. And, finally, the original character – Fu – joined the roster.
Kefla’s addition makes plenty of sense. On the one hand, half of Kefla – Kale – obviously came with inspiration from popular Dragon Ball movie villain, Broly. With Broly on his way to a new film, Kefla’s addition is possibly a decent nod. The character brought some controversy as well, however. Fans called foul at exactly how easy it was for Caulifla, in particular, to join in on the Super Saiyan Bargain Sale. But many stopped complaining upon seeing the fight that came from their fusion. Goku vs. Kefla became one of the biggest fights of Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power. And it’s easy to see why. The animation delivered in a big way (and was subsequently topped, several times over).
Along with the two playable characters, the new DLC pack brings 5 new Parallel Quests, 8 new skills, 4 costumes, and 2 Super Souls. Though it can be noted that there are no mentors being added. This means that all or most of these the new skills and equipment are tied to the quests. That is a sticking point with some players due to the frustration over the RNG involved in getting the drops. So it could be a while before players actually get their hands on most of the items that the DLC pack will bring, later this month.
