What began in 1974 as an innovative idea is now the most popular tabletop RPG. Dungeons and Dragons is celebrating 45 years of inspiring fans’ creativity. It’s also celebrating five years since the launch of its wildly popular 5th edition rule set. And the team at Wizards of the Coast has decided to mark the occasion.
Dungeons and Dragons will release a Sapphire Anniversary Dice Set. In collaboration with Level Up Dice, these sets are made of aluminum. The d20 has a sapphire embedded inside of the number 20. The dice has been specifically crafted and tested to remain balanced. The set will also come with a dice box and matching dice dray. The team didn’t stop there, updating a classic monster specifically for the set. It is, unsurprisingly, a sapphire dragon. Stats that go with the 5th edition rules will be included with this set.
There will only be 1,974 sets made, the same number as the year Dungeons and Dragons was created. It’s not cheap, with each set selling for $299.99. However, given the content and the occasion, the price is reasonable. To ensure fans only get authentic sets, each one will be numbered. Fans will only be able to purchase these sets directly from Wizards of the Coast. They will go on sale on November 21st at 11 am PT.
Nathan Stewart, VP of Dungeons and Dragons, stated:
“When the D&D team realized the sapphire is the traditional anniversary stone for both five years and forty-five years, and that adding a laboratory-created sapphire to a twenty-sided die wouldn’t jeopardize the integrity of a roll, we couldn’t pass up the chance to make something really cool to celebrate the milestones. The team put together a fun product for our fans that includes art and newly updated stats for sapphire dragons, making these classic dragons ready for play in your next D&D session.”
