Lately, there have been many news stories concerning ICE agents and their behavior against people all around the United States. Most recently, a family of a father and two children was arrested and detained in Durango, Colorado, by ICE. However, according to recent reports, the family taken was actually the wrong one, with the mother on standby, awaiting their return to her. It would then be to her surprise that, apparently, it was too late for things to be rectified.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @willowbradner, which belongs to Colorado political commentator Willow Bradner. In it, she goes on to describe the sequence of events that have happened since the Durango, Colorado, father and children were taken by ICE. It is alleged that they were immediately put on a plane and taken to Texas, where they were then processed as illegal immigrants by agents.
However, while this was happening, the children’s mother, and presumably the father’s wife, informed officials that they had the wrong people. Reportedly, instead of acknowledging this information and returning the family to the woman, they blocked officers from being able to perform a welfare check on them before ultimately being told that nothing could be done.
ICE Agents Criticized for Detaining the Wrong Family
Various commentators filled the replies with their thoughts, many of them expressing disgust at the whole situation. Many of the comments were along the lines of, “this has changed me forever. I will never look at my fellow humans the same way. I will never forgive the people who voted for this,” and “Yes, they did vote for it to happen to legal citizens. They voted for it to happen to anyone who wasn’t white. Because it’s about racism and it always has been.“
In a follow-up video, Willow confirms that the family was since freed, and reads a statement from them that alleges terrible behaviors from ICE while detained. The statement, which was taken by the Durango Herald from the father who was arrested, Fernando Jaramillo Solano, goes on to say, “They told me I did not matter. They told me my children did not matter. We did not see sunlight. There were three of us confined in a tiny cell and with our hands, wastes, and feet shackled.“
This event is only one of many that have occurred as a result of ICE’s involvement in the political landscape. Just recently, an elderly man from Chicago, Illinois, condemned ICE agents for taking away people who were working in a historically conservative neighborhood. Also in Chicago, an ICE agent intentionally backed up into a woman’s car, only to arrest her for the incident.
