Dwarven Forge, the tabletop 3D terrain king, has launched a new Kickstarter. Teased in Dungeons and Dragons’ Stream of Descent in May, this one features a Hellscape for players to explore. With a 16 day Kickstarter campaign and a goal of $100,000, it has already been surpassed four times over in less than 24 hours.
The current pledge is $479,128 with a mere 591 backers. With an estimated delivery of April 2020, there are multiple levels to pledge and multiple rewards. A minimum pledge of $10 gives backers a choice of some modest hellish terrain pieces. As the price goes up, so do the rewards. The highest package is $3,890 which includes all Hellscape terrain pieces two times over, three additional add-on packs, and the special new DF Light Panels.
So what can backers and tabletop enthusiasts expect from this Kickstarter? There is the typical hand-sculpted and painted terrain Dwarven Forge is well-known for. It is, by no means, a cheap product. A standard terrain set of 10-20 pieces typically costs $50. But they are sturdy, gorgeous, and detailed pieces well worth each dollar spent. This round has rocks and lava to mimic a Hellscape. Walls, floors, tunnels, and corners make up the base of the set. There are special terrain pieces to include stalagmites with lava, and a corner piece with lava dripping down it. There are also smaller detail pieces that include a Howling Devil Statue, a Devil Talisman Pole Accessory, and an Infernal Altar.
The fun doesn’t end there. Dwarven Forge has introduced a new DF Light Panel. They are already known for their LED accessories, allowing flickering torches and glowing orbs to be seamlessly placed in dungeons. But the lava of this set has been specifically designed to glow from underneath. These new light panels allow players and Dungeon Masters to light up entire terrain from beneath.
Just like their last Kickstarter, Dwarven Forge has stretch goals. Five of them have already been met, unlocking ledges and special detail pieces like corner stalagmites. There are still three more stretch goals reaching $600,000, with secret ones promised beyond that.
The Kickstarter will run until July 1st. If you miss out on making a pledge, these pieces will be available on their online store around Summer 2020.
