Ru Paul’s Drag Race star-turned-dancer as DWTS (Dancing with the Stars) season 31 contestant, Shangela, received support from Lady Gaga back in November. In an interview with People, the dancer gave her reaction to getting some love from one of the biggest singers in the world.
The two had worked together when filming Bradley Cooper’s take on A Star Is Born. Since Shangela joined DWTS for the first season on Disney+ with partner Gleb Savchenko, the musician and actress gave her support on Instagram for her friend when dancing to The Edge of Glory, as seen below from a screenshot from the Twitter fan page, Lady Gaga Now.
“Lady Gaga has always shown me such great kindness. The fact that this beautiful person is doing this for me — I don’t want to let her down. I must rise to the occasion.”

Shangela had a great run on DWTS through performance and fan support, which had been gained through time on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, and it did not hurt from a shoutout from Lady Gaga. The performer made it to the finale with some big wins that reached that point, like a perfect score in week 7. By the end, the dancing duo placed in fourth place, with TikTok star Charli D’Amelio and partner Mark Ballas winning the finale.
Over the years, the Drag Race star has gained quite an audience. He has over 1.5 million followers on Instagram alone. Throughout his career, he has starred in shows like Glee, Bones, and The X-Files. He has an HBO series, We’re Here, in which the performer travels to meet people in the LGBT community.
This was the first season of the reality competition series to be on Disney+. It was a little rocky to restructure around the lack of commercial breaks and due to multiple COVID cases across talent and crew. Still, after those first few episodes, things smoothed out to let the dancing shine.
