Dying Light 2 has finally debuted, letting fans of both the Dying Light series and open-world games as a whole enjoy the parkour combat fest that is said game. In the shoes of Aiden, you’ll work with people across the city as you both shape its future, and work to discover where you can find your sister Mia. Before we can even begin to play though, you may notice your game crashing either midway through gameplay or on startup. If you find yourself running into these issues, there’s a few possible causes that you should keep in mind and potentially use to remedy your issues. Here’s how to fix possible crashing issues in Dying Light 2.
How to Fix Crashing Issues with Dying Light 2
1. Update Your Graphics Driver (PC Exclusive)
If you find Dying Light 2 is crashing on PC, it’s possible that your graphics drivers are not updated. Both graphics card designers AMD and Nvidia release consistent driver updates ahead of major game releases like Dying Light, so it’s important to ensure you update to the latest drivers to prevent crashes. Nvidia’s graphics drivers can be found here, while AMD’s graphics drivers can be found here.
2. Attempt to Run Dying Light 2 After a Clean Boot
It’s possible that a game crashing could be due to something with regards to booting up your console or PC earlier. One quick fix you can do is a quick restart of your system and attempt to run Dying Light 2 again. While unlikely, it could remedy any issues you’re running into.
3. Disable Ray Tracing
While unlikely on consoles (though still entirely possible), ray tracing could be causing crashes to occur due to the way that the lighting is rendered differently to non-ray traced games. To disable this, you’ll want to head over to your Options Menu and select the respective Ray Tracing option. On PC specifically, this can be found in the Advanced Graphics settings by pressing F. As an added test, make sure to tweak a few other settings like the D3D11 or D3D12 (switch between the two) to see if that’s causing your problems.
4. Change Settings for the Game in Steam (PC Exclusive)
Full credit for this fix goes to Techland’s community manager over on the game’s official Discord. If playing on Steam, right-click on Dying Light 2, head to Properties, Launch Options, then put “/nolightfx” in the text box (don’t include the quotes). If you’re not playing on Steam, this will be fixed with a future patch.
5. Reinstall Dying Light 2
While this is the most annoying step of all, the last resort is to simply uninstall Dying Light 2 and reinstall it. It’s entirely possible that, while installing the game, something got corrupted and caused your crashing issues. As such, a full reinstall will be necessary. If on Steam though, you can also verify the integrity of the game files through the Properties again and navigating to Local Files.
If all else fails, you may simply have to wait until a future patch for Dying Light 2 to have its crashing issues fixed. Either way, I hope this list of fixes helped you in some way, and be sure to let us know if another fix not on this list helped you!
