Later on in the year, classic Xbox games that players have come to love (and respect) will become backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Say what? Should I repeat that? No, I think you fine readers can smell what I’m cookin’ (or, in this case, what Xbox is cookin’). This awesome piece of news was announced earlier at E3 2017.
The only confirmed game to become backwards compatible as of now is the classic airplane fighter, Crimson Skies. The game, as Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said, is in high demand to be playable on the latest console. Spencer said that there would be more information on what other classic games would be coming later on in the year.
Originally teased as more of wishful thinking in 2015, the original console to have backwards compatibility was thought to be an almost impossible task. It’s been two years since then, and I’m sure that the company’s tech has exponentially increased–making that wishful thinking a tangible reality that they could grasp onto. Check out the announcement below.
As to what other original games that could be coming to the Xbox One…that still remains to be seen. Gamers of that era (like me) would, I’m sure, like to see games like the original Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Project Gotham Racing 2, Jade Empire, Ninja Gaiden, Fable, or even Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. This in itself is wishful thinking, but I’m sure the company has plans similar to my mutterings (give me Splinter Cell on Xbox One, please and thank you) for their backwards compatibility plan coming later this year for the Xbox One. Stay tuned to find out!
