There is a lot of debate in the UFC as to who the greatest of all time, or the GOAT, is. Anderson Silva and Jon Jones have tainted their careers with failed drug tests. GSP left the sport in his prime and Conor McGregor has never defended a belt. The latest trailer for EA Sports UFC 3 makes things look like that the MMA GOAT might just be you thanks to the new revamped career mode in the game.
The whole career mode is built upon a steady climb to be the GOAT. Previous titles have focused just on rising up the ranks if you won your latest fight and falling if you lost.
EA Sports UFC 3 career mode breaks down your career progress into smaller chunks or contracts. Fighters will have goals within each of their contracts. If most of them are met the richer your next contract will be. This will lead to the bigger money fights, more fans and hopefully the title of the greatest of all time.
The career mode has some new additions as well in how you will spend your time between fights. Fighters will be able to pick the gyms where they will spend their camps. The better gyms will obviously cost more money which is where you will be spending some of that cold hard cash earned in the octagon. Training at these gyms with be simulated but there will be the opportunity to learn new skills via mini-games.
Fighters can also choose to spend some time away from the gym doing promotional activities. This may detract from the fight night performance but could gain more fans and ultimately prestige and money.
During the duration of each contract, fighters may also develop rivalries that will play out before leading its natural conclusion in the octagon. Add social media, stare downs at the weigh-ins and more and it appears career mode may be in the heavyweight division and not the flyweight.
EA Sports UFC 3 releases February 3, 2018, on Xbox One and PS4.
