East of West, the long-running sci-fi western, is set to end with issue #45. Creators Jonathan Hickman & Nick Dragotta promise an epic finale.
East of West will end its run with an ultimate showdown. The science-fiction/western crossover series has been popular among fans since its debut.
“In this business, it isn’t often that you get to end a project exactly the way you want to, and I think that’s what makes this one so special,” said Hickman. “We started East of West with a story we wanted to tell, and we’ve had the incredible honor of having a bunch of fans make that story a reality. So, enjoy it. God knows we have.”
The series first launched as a monthly offering from Image in March 2013 and explores a dystopian America, divided into seven nations. The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse are usually the villains, but in this case, they are the heroes of this universe.
In an interview, co-creator Nick Dragotta had this to say:
“It all goes down in East of West #45, an extra-length, action-packed issue that has been one of my favorites to draw. Creatively with Jonathan, Frank, and Rus, East of West has been an incredible ride, and none of it would have been possible without you—the readers—and Image Comics. We did it, 45 issues… thank you and enjoy the end times.”
The East of West series will be collected into ten trade paperbacks and three deluxe hardcover editions. As a matter of fact, Vol. 1-9 is out in stores now on paperback. Similarly, East of West: Year One and Year Two in deluxe hardcover are also available in retail stores.
Issue #45 brings closure to the epic world-building, political intrigue, and character drama. The ultimate showdown will shock, but nevertheless, satisfy fans.
The final issue hits store shelves on Wednesday, December 25th. Merry Christmas!
