Kodansha’s most recent Weekly Shonen Magazine’s 4th and 5th issues of 2023 revealed that Hiro Mashima’s manga Edens Zero has entered its final stages. Mashima (Fairy Tail, Ravemaster) first serialized the manga in Weekly Shonen Magazine in June 2018.
As of now, Kodansha is publishing the manga in English for print and digital release. The Edens Zero manga is also inspiring a developing 3D action RPG for consoles and a top-down RPG for mobile devices. Konami is developing the games. As of now, a release timeline for both is unknown.
Edens Zero Manga: A Fourth Take to Hiro Mashima’s Fantasy Genre
The story for Edens Zero is described as follows:
“At Granbell Kingdom, an abandoned amusement park, Shiki has lived his entire life among machines. But one day, Rebecca and her cat companion Happy appear at the park’s front gates. Little do these newcomers know that this is the first human contact Granbell has had in a hundred years! As Shiki stumbles his way into making new friends, his former neighbors stir at an opportunity for robo-rebellion… and when his old homeland becomes too dangerous, Shiki must join Rebecca and Happy on their space escape into the boundless cosmos.”
Edens Zero is Hiro Mashima’s third major shonen manga. The announcement for the Edens Zero manga series was made on the last day of 2017. Mashima claimed that the idea of a space fantasy manga would create an exciting challenge for him, given the genre’s lack of popularity. In the afterwords of volume 3, he describes Edens Zero as a cross of both Fairy Tail and Rave Master.
Currently first season of the Edens Zero anime first premiered in Japan in April 2021. It aired for 25 overall episodes. The show then began streaming on Netflix outside of Japan in August 2021. Season two of the anime is scheduled for a 2023 release.
