Elden Ring‘s Ashes of War is the new game’s version of the Weapon Art system introduced in Dark Souls 3 and is a refined version of that system in every way. With a game that provides such a wide variety of different builds and playstyles, players must know what Ashes of War are and how to use them to optimize their gameplay fully. This guide will explain how to use Ashes of War in Elden Ring.
How To Use Ashes Of War In Elden Ring
Ashes of War are found throughout the world of Elden Ring and are special skills that can be equipped on your weapons, taking the place of that weapon’s Skill. A majority weapon comes with a Skill and is used by pressing the L2/LT button. These significant moves can be found by killing the Scarabs rolling a white ball or can be rewards for killing certain bosses, completing dungeons, etc. Before long, you will get yourself a decent list of Ashes of War, but you need to know how to equip them. There are two ways to do so. First, you can travel to the Roundtable Hold and talk to Hewg the Blacksmith. Talking to him will allow you to customize your weapons with Ashes of War and duplicate them to get multiple weapons with the same ability. The other place you can edit your Ashes of War is at a Site of Grace, but you need to find a Whetstone Knife.

You can find a Whetstone Knife very early on your adventure in Limgrave. Head to the Gatefront Ruins near the gate that leads to Stormhill, the one with the giant that jumps down from an overpass. In these ruins, you will find a staircase that goes underground that leads to a big stone door. Open it, and you will find a chest. This is where you will find your Whetstone Knife. With this, you will be able to change the Weapon Arts on your weapons with any Ashes of War that is able to be applied to the weapon in question.
Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
