Here’s some fun Christmas news. The Santa Clause franchise will return in the form of a limited Disney+ series. Tim Allen is confirmed to return as Santa himself. Reprising actress Elizabeth Mitchell will now be joining him in The Santa Clause as Mrs. Claus/Carol Calvin, according to a report from Deadline.
The Santa Clause premiered in 1994 and starred Allen as Scott Calvin, who becomes the jolly man himself after accidentally killing the previous Santa Claus. Elizabeth Mitchell joined the cast in The Santa Clause 2 when Allen had to find a Mrs. Claus in order to continue being St. Nick. She was also in The Santa Clause 3 when a mischievous Jack Frost (Martin Short) tried to steal Santa Claus’ job.
The Santa Clause series on Disney+ will follow Calvin, who has just turned 65. He finds himself lacking in his Santa Claus responsibilities and begins to consider retirement. He then goes on a quest to find a suitable replacement for the red suit and beard while also preparing Mrs. Claus and his children for a life outside of the North Pole.
The project comes from Jack Burditt, who will serve as the showrunner and also created Last Man Standing, which also stars Allen. Last Man Standing aired on Fox and recently ended in 2021. In addition, Burditt is also an executive producer alongside Richard Baker, Kevin Hench, and Rick Messina. Production on the series will begin sometime in March in Los Angeles.
What has Mitchell been up to lately?
Outside of The Santa Clause, Mitchell showcases plenty of experience in television. She is known for her roles in Lost, Once Upon A Time, and NBC’s Revolution. She also had a recurring role in the second season of Netflix’s Outer Banks and has a leading role in Netflix’s upcoming vampire drama First Kill produced by Emma Roberts.
