Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s performance of “God Bless America” onstage alongside opera singer Chris Macchio has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. Many people are calling the appearance “awkward” and “embarrassing.”
Elon Musk’s Performance at Trump Event Was Cringe-Worthy
Trump and Musk took the stage at Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday to celebrate Trump being elected the 47th president of the United States. During the celebration, Chris Macchio performed a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America.” However, Donald Trump and Elon Musk joined in on the performance.
While this normally would have been fine, it seemed like the Tesla founder didn’t actually know the words to the song. After seeing how things played out, critics couldn’t wait to slam Musk on social media.
One person took to X, writing, “I suspect they gave the microphone to the right one.” Another person doubled down, “Elon doesn’t know the words to ‘God Bless America.’ That’s it. That’s the story.”
Another person laughed, “ok this is like peak internet rn i cant even process what im watching… trump and elon singing with an opera guy??”
A number of people found the entire performance to be cringe-worthy, with many calling it “awkward” and “embarrassing.” One person labeled it, “Cringiest video of the year found.”
Donald Trump Announces Musk’s Position at the White House
Elon Musk’s performance isn’t having any impact on his relationship with the soon-to-be president, though. After all, he did a lot to help Trump get elected. The AP recently reported that Musk’s super PAC spent around $200 million to get Trump in office.
Shortly before the event on Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would be spearheading the new Department of Government Efficiency in the White House.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump said in a statement. “Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 trillion of government spending.”
He continued, stating that his administration would aim to establish a “smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy.”
After winning the election, choosing new colleagues to assist him in his mission at the White House has been a top priority for Donald Trump. He has cited staffing issues as one of his biggest regrets during his first term. It seems knowing the words to “God Bless America” isn’t necessary to land a job.
