CCP have announced the Amarr Championships in their MMO EVE Online. The tournament will decide the new emperor for one of the most powerful non-player factions in the game. Unlike the yearly Alliance Tournament run in game, which draws from the largest player alliances throughout the galaxy of New Eden will only be available to those with a high enough standing with one of the main four non-player factions, the Amarr Empire, and gives them the chance to change the history of the EVE Online universe forever.
The tournament follows the death of the in-game character Empress Jamyl I to the hands of the newest enemy to be introduced to the EVE Online universe, the Drifters. Players will have the chance to back one of six heirs from the royal houses of Amarr in contention for the throne as their champion.

Applications to be the heir’s champion must fulfill certain requirements including a positive standing of +0.5 with the Amarr Empire, and a written text description detailing why their character should be the chosen heir’s champion and a video showcasing their combat skills. The tournament final will be held at Fanfest 2016, and the two teams who reach the finals will receive free entry and accommodation to the event.
