The Evil Dead will have a direct sequel, according to Deadline. New Line will be partnering with WarnerMedia to stream it through HBO Max exclusively. Sam Raimi released a statement in regards to the stupendous news:
“I’m thrilled to bring Evil Dead back to its original home at New Line 40 years after the release of the first film. The company’s history as pioneers of horror speaks for itself. I’m equally excited to be working with Lee Cronin, whose gifts as a storyteller make him the ideal filmmaker to continue the enduring legacy of the franchise.”
Sam Raimi hand-picked Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin to direct and write The Evil Dead sequel, which is aptly named Evil Dead Rises. I see that they took Justin Timberlake’s advice and dropped the “the.” Cronin was the mastermind behind 2019s The Hole in the Ground.Â
New Ashley Williams Perhaps In Evil Dead Rises?
We are also learning that Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan will star in Evil Dead Rises along with that news. Sutherland got her first big break when she played Clacker #1 in The Devil Wears Prada, a small role for sure, but all that did was open the doors for her to be in a handful of movies and a handful of television series before landing this starring role in a beloved IP. As for Sullivan, she got her start in the Australian television world with Mental and has done most of her acting work in Australia.

When it comes to things of this nature, my rule of thumb is simple: is the driving force behind the original IP part of the production? If the answer is yes, then things should work out well. Mad Max is a prime example of that and also Evil Dead, which was directed by Fede Alvarez and produced by not only Sam Raimi but by Ashley Joann Williams himself; Bruce Campbell.
