Factorio has been considered a big hit among resource management fans for over four years now. It has a lot to love, and so much content that keeps you coming back time and time again. Players were excited for the full release on September 25th, but that has been changed. It will now release on August 14th, mainly due to the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the desire to now be overshadowed by that title. It’s a good choice financially but unfortunately has impacted the 1.0 update slightly.
When it was originally announced during Factorio Friday Facts #321, the team promised a lot of things for 1.0. There was the promise of a new campaign, fluid algorithm improvements, and a full GUI rewrite. That has unfortunately been scaled back, and there will no longer be a new campaign with the update. There also won’t be fluid algorithm improvements, and the GUI rewrite has been scaled back a bit. This isn’t completely ruling any of these improvements out for beyond 1.0, but they won’t be in the full release. All in all, it does make sense given the time but it’s still unfortunate news.
Thankfully, everything besides these features is still on track. There’ll be a new trailer, and many things will be polished up and finalized for 1.0. If you haven’t heard of Factorio though, you should get into it. You build an ever-increasing factory with many different products and machinery. The whole sense of discovery and wonder keeps you wanting to constantly learn new and interesting ways to play the game. If this all sounds fun to you and you want to know more, you can find more details on the game’s Steam page.
