Fairy Tail’s manga run has ended, we all know that. The next arc of the anime is planned for late this year, but series creator Hiro Mashima has moved on from the work and is currently planning his next project. The man’s been all over the place recently, from New York to France, attending comic cons and hosting panels. It was at the Angouleme International Comics Festival where he loosened his tongue – albeit online – about the new series he’s beginning. Don’t get too excited, he didn’t say all that much, though Fairy Tail fans will be pleased by one point in particular.
First, it will be a fantasy genre. Not a big surprise. He’s going to challenge himself with developing the story and the humor material… whatever that means. And finally, and by far the most critical and world-changing detail. Drum Roll…
Plue will appear.
That’s all we know at the moment about the new series, and we still have next to no info about the upcoming anime arc, aside from it finishing out the manga chapters. Fairy Tail lasted 63 volumes and 545 chapters, but left several loose ends untied and many fans confused or unsatisfied. That’s mostly because Hiro Mashima didn’t really have a plan for the ending, preferring to write off the cuff and focus on the emotions and individuality of the characters over plot continuity and flow. While that results in stories with holes like swiss cheese, no one can deny that it was effective in entertaining the audience.
Until Hiro Mashima’s next project begins circulation, finding a replacement for Fairy Tail won’t be easy. The best fans can do in the meantime is to keep their attention on the man himself and wait patiently for more details as they come in the near future. Isn’t that right, Happy?
“Aye, sir!”
