Global fan platform Fandom has announced its acquisition of various leading entertainment and video game brands from media company Red Ventures, including Gamespot, GameFAQs, and Metacritic. According to the announcement page, the deal will seek to increase the company’s fan reach and engagement and drive commerce for its various new affiliates. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
What Does This Mean for Fandom?
Fandom is currently one of the world’s largest is the world’s largest fan platforms, with over 350 million unique visitors per month and the host of over 250,000 fan-run wiki and trivia pages covering information from games, TV, movies, and other multimedia.
With these acquisitions, Fandom will now rank as the #14 largest ad-supported site in the U.S. The brands acquired in the deal include GameSpot, Metacritic, TV Guide, GameFAQs, Giant Bomb, Cord Cutters News, and Comic Vine.
“By combining Fandom’s 300M MAUs, 250K Wiki communities, and 40M pages of content with this widely recognized gaming, movie, and TV brands reaching 46M MAUs, Fandom extends its strategic mission to be the fan’s first choice for community and experience,” the site reads.
Fandom hopes to drive greater engagement across its various site assets, including reference, community, trends, ratings, reviews, news, and commerce, as well as extend its 360 programs to game publishers, studios, and streaming services.

Fandom previously acquired ScreenJunkies in 2018 to enhance its entertainment news coverage, as well as Curse Media in 2019 to integrate the world’s top gaming wikis into its platform. It also acquired Fanatical, a leading eCommerce video game retailer, in 2021, to strengthen its gaming footprint.
