Warner Bros has moved up the release of the third Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film. The third installment “Fantastic Beasts 3” was previously set to release on July 15, 2022, but the studio has now pushed that up to Easter Weekend, on April 15, 2022.
Fantastic Beasts and When to Find Them
Easter weekend has typically been a good release window for Warner Bros. Some notable examples are Batman v Superman ($166M), Clash of the Titans ($61.2M), Ready Player One ($47M), and Godzilla v Kong ($48M). Combined, both Fantastic Beasts films have grossed $1.46B worldwide.
David Yates will return to direct “Fantastic Beasts 3”. Steve Kloves serves as the writer, adapting the screenplay by Harry Potter writer, JK Rowling. The film is currently in post-production. Neil Blair, Danny Cohen, and Courtenay Valenti share Executive Producer credits.
“Fantastic Beasts 3” marks the debut of Mads Mikkelsen playing the villain Grindelwald. The role had previously been played by Johnny Depp, who had been removed from the role late in 2020 by Warner Bros. The purported reason was over Depp’s battle with the UK Tabloid, The Sun, alleging him as a “wife-beater” in a case between Depp and his former partner, Amber Heard. Aside from that, a large part of the original cast is set to return. Jude Law will reprise his role as Dumbledore, Ezra Miller will play Credence Barebone, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, and Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein.
For its Easter weekend debut, “Fantastic Beasts 3” is set to launch only in theaters. Warner Bros will begin to move away from having a same-day release in theaters and on platforms such as HBO Max. The last film, Fantasic Beasts: The Crimes of Gindelwald, was released in 2018. With a four-year gap, fans of the Wizarding World will be more than ready to see the next entry in the series.
