The fighting game news continues to roll in after the conclusion of Evo 2022. With the recent announcement from SNK being the return of the classic Fatal Fury series after 23 years.
The Fatal Fury games were the introduction of iconic characters like Terry Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Mai Shiranui. The characters had then moved on to the King of Fighters franchise and have become mainstay characters ever since.
Among the other fighting game announcements at Evo 2022, SNK announced the return of Fatal Fury/Garou with a short teaser trailer. The trailer doesn’t show much in terms of gameplay but does confirm some details about the upcoming fighting game.
The message in the trailer reads, “The city of legend still breathes. Hungry Wolves are back on the prowl. A new destiny hidden in darkness. New Fatal Fury/Garou greenlit.”
When Does Fatal Fury Return?
The last entry in the Fatal Fury franchise came out in 1999 and was called Garou: Mark Of The Wolves or Fatal Fury: Mark Of The Wolves. Then SNK found great success with the King of Fighters franchise, with the most recent one being the 15th entry in the series.
Considering fighting game development cycles and the fact that the trailer had nothing to show when it comes to gameplay, the game is probably in the very early stages of development. And will likely take at least a year or two before it is in a playable state.
Another interesting finding in the short trailer was the artwork itself, which was signed by “Tonko.” As long-time fans quickly noticed, Tonko is the pen name of Aki Senno, the original artist who created the designs for Fatal Fury characters. With him making a comeback along with the franchise, it may be a true return to form.
In other fighting game news, Street Fighter 6 got a new trailer for Juri and Kimberly, while Tekken got a teaser confirming a new entry to the series.
