In his words, the manga will end “in a few chapters,” and that he has two chapters left to draw. He also confirmed that the Fire Force manga would end in “about” two volumes. This would make the manga end around the 34th volume.
The manga first entered its final arc in October of 2021. Ohkubo already hinted at the manga’s commentary that the manga was in its final stages. He also stated that he wanted Fire Force to be his final manga series.
The Fire Force Manga’s Popularity Rise
Ohkubo launched his series in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in September 2015. This was the first manga series they published since finishing Soul Eater. Currently, Fire Force has more than 17 million physical and digital copies in circulation. As Kodansha publishes the manga in English, the company also sells and distributes physical copies. Fire Force’s story is described as,
Terror has paralyzed the clockwork metropolis of Tokyo. Possessed by demons, people have begun to bust into flames, leading to the establishment of a special firefighting team: the Fire Force. The team is ready to roll on a moment’s notice to fight spontaneous combustion anywhere it might break out. The team is about to get a very unique addition: Shinra, a boy who posses the unique power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind “devil footprints”. Can the Fire Force discover the source of ths phenomenon and put a stop to it? Or will the city burn to ashes first?
Since its debut, the Fire Force manga has inspired an anime series of the same name. The series aired in July 2019 and ran for 24 episodes. Following that, the series also had a “second chapter,” which also ran for 24 episodes.
Funimation and Crunchyroll’s websites have the Fire Force anime by Atsushi Ohkubo. The series is available in English dub and English sub.
