Fired General Hospital star Indo Rademacher has lost his Covid-19-based lawsuit against ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC rose victorious in Rademacher’s lawsuit against the network that fired him for refusing the Covid-19 vaccine. Rademacher’s former General Hospital co-star Steve Burton was fired for the same reason. Rademacher filed his lawsuit in December 2021, claiming that ABC refused to accommodate his religious objections to the vaccine. ABC countered that Rademacher’s objections were more rooted in health than religious reasons. ABC’s parent company, Disney, has since dropped all its Covid-19 vaccine requirements. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen Goorvitch has taken ABC’s side against Ingo Rademacher in this Covid-19-related lawsuit.
How ABC Defeated Ingo Rademacher’s Covid-19 Lawsuit
Part of Rademacher’s problem was the weakness of his religious exemption argument. The former General Hospital star rejected the Covid-19 vaccine based on his “moral belief that my body is endowed by my creator with natural processes to protect me and that its natural integrity cannot ethically be violated by the administration of artificially created copies of genetic material, foreign to nature and experimental.” ABC’ lawyer Steven Marenberg countered that “Rademacher’s testimony confirms his ‘religion’ is not comprehensive in nature, but focused instead on the issue of not altering one’s/his immune system and ‘do[ing] the right thing’ or simply being a ‘good person.” It was also problematic that Rademacher’s belief system lacked any signs of a religion, such as tenets, creeds, gathering places, etc.
The formerly strict Covid-19 vaccine requirements were problematic for many objectors in the entertainment industry. There are rumors that Jordan Elsass left Superman & Lois due to the requirements, though this has never been confirmed or denied.
Ingo Rademacher continually portrayed Jasper Jax on General Hospital from 1996 to 2001. Along with his refusal to get the Covid-19 vaccine, Rademacher is also believed to have been fired for a transphobic tweet.
