Disney Pixar has officially released the first trailer for Elemental, their upcoming 2023 animated film directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film takes place in a city inhabited by sentient elemental residents made of fire, air, water, and land and follows a fiery woman and a go-with-the-flow water man who discover they have more in common than they think.
The film will release on June 16, 2023.
Opposites React in the First Pixar Elemental Trailer
The very first trailer for Disney-Pixar’s next animated film, Elemental, has just dropped, and it provides our first glimpse into the world of Elemental City and the story of Ember (Leah Lewis) and Wade (Mamoudou Athie). The film will be directed by Peter Sohn, who has been involved in several other Pixar projects as well, including 2022’s Lightyear, 2015’s The Good Dinosaur, 2007’s Ratatouille, and more.
The first Elemental trailer opens up upon a city inhabited by various residents who are made of the four elements of fire, water, earth, and air. The main heroine Ember enters a train where she encounters Wade, a young man made of water. The story will focus on their relationship as they find they have more in common than they think, but due to being opposites, can never embrace one another.
The film manages to make every character and element look distinct from one another, particularly the effects of Ember’s fiery body, the wateriness of Wade and other water elementals, the movement of the air and cloud people, and other small details to make each character unique.
Director Peter Sohn has recently shared in an interview that the story of Elemental is very personal to him and his experiences, and hopes fans, new and old, will enjoy it when it releases in theaters next year on June 16, 2023.
