The cast of Christopher Nolan’s next film, Oppenheimer, is shaping up to be one of his best yet. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Benny Safdie are joining Nolan and Universal’s Oppenheimer. This trio will be joining the other stars currently attached to the project, which includes Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy who will play the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Although Murphy is leading the picture, the other cast members of Oppenheimer appear to have been given some amazing roles as well. Florence Pugh is set to play Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States and a romantic interest of Oppenheimer. Benny Safdie is set to play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist who not only worked on the Manhattan Project but was also the father of the hydrogen bomb. Unfortunately, few details are known about Rami Malek’s role, but it was confirmed that his role will be a scientist.
Some of the other significant parts in Oppenheimer include Emily Blunt’s role, who is set to portray Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, and Matt Damon’s role, who will portray Lieutenant General Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project. Lastly, Robert Downey Jr. will serve as a sort of antagonist to Murphy’s Oppenheimer. Downey Jr. is set to portray Lewis Strauss, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission who questioned Oppenheimer’s loyalty to the United States.
Oppenheimer was written and will be directed by Christopher Nolan. It is based on the book, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, which was written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 21, 2023.
