A woman in Florida was excited to celebrate her pregnancy with her husband. So, when she was far enough along, the happy couple decided to hold a gender reveal party. The mother-to-be allowed her own mother to learn the gender of the baby first and help her host a party. However, when it came time for the big reveal, the expectant mother was not too happy when her mom stole her thunder and made the moment all about her.
In a now-viral TikTok video, the pregnant Florida woman and her husband smile brightly as they count down to the moment of the gender reveal. Finally, they pop open cans of confetti. One was pink and one was blue. This left everyone very confused.
Some guests at the party were wondering if it was twins. However, the parents looked just as stunned as everyone else. Finally, the grandmother-to-be, who climbed up high to stand off to the side, but still be very much the center of attention, held up a black balloon. She then popped the balloon to reveal just pink confetti, confirming that the baby was a girl.

Despite the fact that the pregnant woman was disappointed by how the gender reveal went down, she looked thrilled to be having a baby girl. In the caption of the post, the woman wrote, “POV: Your mom had to make your gender reveal about her. I was too happy at the fact it was a girl tho.”
Of course, with more than 2 million views on the video, TikTok had plenty to say about the viral moment. Many weren’t happy that the grandmother took over the moment and stole the attention from her own daughter.
“How do yall not get it? The mom gave them blue and pink confetti so they were confused and then she got to pop the balloon with the gender, which indeed made it her moment, revealing it to everyone instead of the couple,” one comment read.
“This is like blowing someone else’s birthday candles,” another person declared. “Literally put herself on a pedestal,” a third social media user chimed in. “What a nightmare,” a fourth person stated.
The video had so many people talking that TikToker Madison Humphrey, who is famously known for making parodies of cringy TikTok videos, even did her own take on the situation.
While it’s easy to joke about, it’s clear that the Florida mom-to-be wasn’t happy about her mother’s behavior at her gender reveal. It seems that a lesson may have been learned by both parties due to the situation.
