Leaked Footage from Telltale’s Stranger Things Game Released Online

It’s no secret, by now, that Telltale Games is shutting its doors. The company recently laid off most of its staff, following a number of complications. While their recent releases were met with critical praise, that doesn’t always translate to sales. The film and television industries make this very clear. There’s a reason that many of the higher regarded films aren’t among the “blockbuster” category. This, of course, meant the cancelation of current Telltale projects. While The Walking Dead’s final season is evidently still set to release the second episode, several projects must now find new homes. This includes the planned video game adaptation of the hit Netflix original series, Stranger Things.

Netflix recently went on record, stating that they would still produce the game, despite Telltale’s closure. In an interview with Polygon, also bringing up the ongoing Minecraft project.

“We are saddened by news about Telltale Games. They developed many great games in the past and left an indelible mark in the industry. Minecraft: Story Mode is still moving forward as planned. We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”

So the Stranger Things game clearly isn’t dead. It’s still unfortunate, however, that the game won’t be handled by these masters of the narrative genre. Some footage recently dropped on the internet, courtesy of PCGamesN, supposedly from Telltale’s version of the game. And it looked promising. That being said, the validity of this footage is up in the air. It sprung up on the likes of Reddit and 4chan. Telltale has yet to confirm anything or make a statement, at this time. But it certainly seems to fit the studio’s style. Hopefully, Netflix does find a new partner to bring the story of Stranger Things to PC and console for players everywhere soon.
