Season two of Fortnite‘s second chapter has begun and brings with it Deadpool and James Bond.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, titled ‘Top Secret,’ launched today with new locations, missions, and battle pass. While not specifically mentioning James Bond, it couldn’t be any closer to 007 in style. The new locations are very James Bond, including a yacht and secret villain lair. The battle pass screen has also seen a drastic change, with it now resembling a hideout straight from a 007 movie. This wouldn’t be the first time Fortnite has teamed up with a major franchise, so don’t be surprised if you see Bond appear soon with the release of No Time To Die.
Since Fortnite Battle Royale launched in 2017, it has developed into a marketing machine. Within the Battle Royale, we’ve seen The Avengers, Star Wars, Batman and John Wick to name only a few. These franchises hold events within the game, such as game modes, locations and cosmetic items to purchase. Fortnite is like Marmite – some love it, some hate it. Feelings about the game aside, I don’t think anyone can deny how comical it is to see Christian Bale’s Batman wield a lightsaber against Black Widow and Keanu Reeves. The last character we saw was Harley Quinn added to the game for Birds of Prey, and now Deadpool has also joined the roster for the new season.
Deadpool doesn’t have a skin in the game yet, but his hideout can be found within the vault. From there, players who have purchased the battle pass can access a set of challenges set by the Merc with a Mouth. Week one asks players to find Deadpool’s letters within the Fortnite map, and specifically don’t thank the bus driver. It’s expected that completing all of Deadpool’s challenges will unlock him as a playable character.
What’s new?
A character customizer has also been added to the game. Upon purchasing the battle pass, players unlock new character Maya. Maya is fully customizable, with everything from her clothes, her hair, to her tattoos. Fortnite claims that she has over 3.8 million style variations. Players have been asking for a character customizer for many seasons, so it’s likely that this will be added to more characters.
As for gameplay changes, nobody is sure exactly what all the changes are. In chapter 2, Epic Games stopped releasing patch notes. Many weapons, including suppressed variants and the Boom Bow, have been unvaulted (added back to the game) and a few vaulted (removed from the game). Most surprisingly, damage traps have been vaulted. These have been a crutch item for Fortnite players for many seasons due to their quick deploy time, high damage, and versatility. There have also been enemy bases added to the map which rewards players with high tier loot for taking out the leader and his henchmen.
