Fortnite was famously removed from Apple’s App Store on iOS devices after Epic tried to circumvent Apple’s 30% transaction fees for purchases made via its store. Now, Fortnite is making its way back to iPhone and iPad with the help of Nvidia.
Fortnite is coming to Nvidia’s cloud streaming service, GeForce Now. The service is similar to Microsoft’s Xcloud and Google’s Stadia. It allows gamers to stream games to their devices without running the games from the device directly, kind of like how Netflix streams video to a device without having to download anything first. That means iOS users will now be able to play Fortnite on their iPhones and iPads via GeForce Now because the game won’t actually be on the devices. Fortnite is still unavailable on Apple devices as the game has not been allowed back on the App Store while Apple and Epic duke it out in court.
Fortnite fans who want to enjoy the game on an iPhone or iPad will need a GeForce Now subscription to access it. The game is currently in beta on the service. Players will also need to register for the beta, which can be done at this link. Fortnite will be playable via Safari on iPhone and iPad. The game includes touch controls for mobile devices as well as controller support. The new GeForce Now beta for Fortnite is also available on Android devices. Players just need to select which platform (iOS or Android) they want to play on when signing up for the beta. Fortnite fans with both an iOS device and an Android device, be sure to select both platforms when signing up. Beta invites will be rolling out in batches over the next few weeks. Players who want to check out Fortnite on their mobile devices via GeForce Now should sign-up soon to be in the waves.
