Fortnite has today launched its January 4 update, bringing with it a set of changes and fixes. Here’s everything you need to know about this patch! As it exists primarily as a hotfix, there are no new files that you have to download or things of the sort. Instead, they’re added directly to the game. Though with that being said, these changes aren’t exactly anything to write home about. With a new form of healing and some notes on the wrapping up of the Winterfest event, you shouldn’t go into today’s update expecting a season’s worth of content. Then again, I don’t imagine you did to begin with. Without further adieu, here’s everything new with Fortnite in its January 4 update!
Fortnite January 4 Update Patch Notes
The Shield Keg: Restore All Shields Around It
You can spray a Med-Mist — introduced in v19.00 — to restore your or your allies’ Health. With the new Shield Keg, throw it down to restore your whole squad’s Shields! This Shield fountain spouts more than long enough to restore a player’s Shield from 0 to 100. But be careful where you throw one down, as it can restore enemies’ Shields too.
Find Shield Kegs in Chests, on the ground, and from Supply Drops. Also exchange Bars for them from Lt. John Llama and The Scientist!
Winterfest “Wrapping” Up
As a reminder, Winterfest ends January 6 at 9 AM ET. Unwrap 14 gift items — two Outfits included, complete Sgt. Winter’s Quests for XP and more, and unlock items by playing Creator-made Winterfest games! Also, as one of the Epic Games Store Epic Deals, get another gift Outfit by logging into Fortnite from the Epic Games Launcher then redeeming it from the Item Shop.
Fortnite is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Android. For more information regarding this update, check out the official website.
