Season three of Fortnite has been delayed once again, this time in response to the recent events surrounding George Floyd’s death.
In a statement on its website, Epic Games wrote:
Hey Fortnite community,
Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of color. We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.
The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities. The live event The Device will be delayed to Monday, June 15, and the Season 3 launch delayed to Wednesday, June 17. We know this delay comes on the heels of another one, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times.
Fortnite chapter two, season three has been through numerous delays. A few weeks before that date, season two was extended by more than a month, until June 4. Last week Epic Games delayed Fortnite season three another week, to June 11. Today came the third delay, with Fortnite season three now scheduled to release June 17.
What will Fortnite season three bring?
We have gotten clues about what Fortnite chapter three may have in store. A potential leak last month suggested more water may be introduced to the map. Like, a lot more water. Yesterday Sony’s PS Store updated a Fortnite icon, showing the iconic bus floating above a body of water, lending credence to last month’s leak.
Other gaming events have also been delayed due to events surrounding George Floyd’s death, including the start of IGN’s Summer of Gaming, which has been delayed to June 8.
